Do you remember your first college visit? Do you want to take your student or child on a college tour but are stuck at home?
I will never forget my first college visit. No one in my family had ever earned a college degree. I was raised thru high school by my grandfather that had only completed 3rd grade. Never had I set foot on a college campus.
I was lucky enough to be part of an organization called GEAR UP. I was in 7th grade and I remember stepping on the bus. Our advisor for GEAR Up told us all about the college we would drive 6 hours to go visit. I think we did visit several schools, but I for sure remember the first stop. I remember being told about the many traditions this university. This year US News & World Report ranks the school #70 nationally. My first college visit helped me to capture a vision that I could one day go to college. I spent many years doing student leadership camps at that same university. Texas A& M holds a special place in my mind for several reasons, but mostly for being the first college I would ever visit.
Most likely you will not be able to visit a college any time soon. Or at least not make a field trip with 50 other students.
Can we still help our students or children have a vision of going to college? Without a vision of going to college our students and children will not go to college.
Below I have links to some resources for you to help a student or your child research colleges.
