GEAR UP week is always one of the most requested dates for our team. This year we will be working with nearly 50,000 students in Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington, Indiana with more still asking to join the National GEAR UP Week Tour!
We have spent the last few years asking Directors & Coordinators for what they do to plan for GEAR UP Week. We have been going on everyone's websites taking notes. We have been looking at everyone's Social Media Post on Instagram and X/Twitter. We have searched on y'alls facebook pages. We know how important this week is for bringing awareness to the great impact y'all are making. We have spent hour upon hour over years collecting this information.
1. School Assembly
School Assembly is a great way to have a large impact and bring huge awareness about GEAR UP to the entire campus. In 1 quick 40-60 min session you can tell the story of GEAR UP to your entire school.
Most of our speakers are fully booked, but check out Keith Davis! Keith is one of our best speakers as he has spoken at over 9,000 Schools.

2. Proclamation
You can get a Mayor, State Rep, National Congressman to do a Proclamation. I will ask one of my Partners to share a template for emails they send out to get proclamations that y'all can download soon.
3. CAMP
GEAR UP Week is a great time to do a Camp. Some of the most popular CAMPs I have seen are on the topics...

4. College Poster Contest
Super Simple to do on GEAR UP week is have the students Make a College Poster that you can put around the school or all along the GEAR UP office hallway. Many schools also do a Pendant version of this same thing.
5. Letter of Intent
Make it look like a press conference for a top athlete doing his college signing day. Have your GEAR UP students sign a letter of intent for a college or a career.
6. Community Outreach
One of our Partners does a mini parade. They call it a PITADA but the parents drive around the school honking. You can have the students decorate vehicles with college or career info.
7. Family Engagement
Plan a family program during GEAR UP week. Don't forget about the parents.
8. College/Career Fair
Invite community members and local/state colleges to come and have a booth. Make it a game and have the students get info from at least 10 booths.
9. Virtual Tour
Have students do Virtual Tours. You can have them pick their own schools or select some schools for them to check out. We will be making a state by state playlist soon for y'all to use with all the colleges selected and organized for you.
10. Dress Up
You can keep it simple and have them dress in college shirts or you can upgrade it by having students dressed in careers. Halloween stores are already opened up by GEAR UP Week so it would not be as difficult as you may think.
